Her mother died of illness when Judy was still a young adult. It was a difficult time in her life to finally accept her mother's passing. But, her growing love for Patrick gave her the strength to move on and together they produced a great family that became the anchor of Judy's life. Raising her children both drained and exhilerated Judy; they were both her blessing and her curse. She was the eternal mother who's greatest goal in life was to see her children grow up well and achieve great things. But, raising that many children was a full time job, leaving Patrick to support the family financially on his own.

 

As her children grew and moved out to start lives of their own, Judy still strived to stay in touch and continue to be a part of their lives. Yet, Judy still wished to hold and care for more babies. So, it was a great joy for her to be able to spend what time she had left with her grandchildren. As Desiree was her oldest child, it was her babies that Judy got to meet and grow to love. She never met any of Peter's children (as he had moved to a new city to pursue a career in politics) and none of Judy's other children had kids of their own while Judy was still alive.
